We might consider this to be the age of obnoxious public displays of AR. Last week, Apple Vision Pro owners started walking around places with their headsets on.
Now Rokid and Hainan Airlines are introducing an in-flight augmented reality experience on the airline’s flights.
Shenzhen, China-based Rokid said passengers traveling from Shenzhen to Xi’an on Hainan Airlines flight HU7874 on February 7 at 10 a.m. were treated to an AR journey, marking a groundbreaking moment in in-flight entertainment, the companies said.
Upon settling into their seats, passengers discovered special Rokid AR Glasses. The glasses presented a 360-inch borderless screen, 1080P resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate, providing a cinematic experience at an altitude of 30,000 feet.

Commencing on today and spanning over a month, more than 20 Hainan Airlines flights will feature the Rokid AR Entertainment Kits. These kits come pre-loaded with a selection of 3D offline movies, revolutionizing the traditional in-flight entertainment landscape and introducing passengers to a new dimension of technological amusement. The initiative seeks to bring delight to travelers, elevating their journey through cutting-edge AR technology.
To ensure an optimal viewing experience, Rokid conducted rigorous device testing and curated a collection of five of the latest films, specially chosen for the Lunar New Year period.
The Rokid AR Glasses, designed for comfort, weigh only 75 grams and boast a battery life of up to five hours, enabling passengers to seamlessly enjoy three consecutive movies. Equipped with dual directional speakers, users can relish high-quality sound without disturbing fellow travelers.
Looking ahead, Rokid plans to expand the application of its AR technology in flights. With advancements in infrastructure such as 5G networks and cloud computing, the company envisions incorporating real-time interactive games and virtual tours. The ultimate goal is to transform every flight into an unforgettable adventure for passengers of all ages, ushering in the era of “smart aviation.”
